Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1)

 

  •  The virus is spread by contact with an infected person, then travels through tiny breaks in skin or mucous memebranes in the mouth and other areas.
  • The spread of HSV-1 can be prevented by washing thoroughly after contact with an infected person, and choose your partners well.
  • The HSV-1 attacks skin and nerve cells.
  • The National Institute of Health (NIH) in phase 3 in trials. Vaccine called Herpevac, 48% Effective.
  • There is a family of 8 different Herpes viruses.
  • Our body deffends itself by Dendritic cells of the immune system travel from the blood to peripheral tissue to capture foreign antigens (the HSV virus).

 

Symptoms

 

  • Initial or reoccuring itching and tingling sensation in the affected area.
  • Swollen area of skin, becomes painful (Cold Sores).

4)Herpes simplex virus is ulsually transmited form the contact of lips when the sore is present. Also it can be

transmited on a childs birth, which can cause brain damage. Also direct contact can play a roll in transmiting

the virus.

 

5)The use of condom or dental dams can limit the transmission from the mouth.

 

6)The type of body cells that are attacked are glycoprotiens,cell surface,receptors,cytoplasm, and cell nucleus.

They attack also the nerve and skin cell.

 

7)Herpes symptons may vary from 2-20 days.

-1st) painfull and very itchy,may go to 2-10 days but virus will still be in your body

-2nd) stress,cold, and fatigue

 

8) The body defends itself by using the dendritic cells of the immune system.

 

9)The vaccines used are the amino acid,lysine, and castoral oil this helps reduce the infection to spread.

 

10)- 50-80 percent of Americans have it

4) HSV-1 is usually transmitted through direct contact of the lips and can be present in saliva. HSV-1 can also be

transmitted to children during the time of birth.

 

5)Can be prevented by not exchanging bodily fluids and the use of condoms etc.

 

6) HSV-1 attacks the cells known as ganglion

 

7)a yellow or red like "blister" appears and causes pain, in most cases when the virus has infected the cells, there

are no immediate symptoms

 

8) Dendritic cells from the immune system help the body defend itself

 

9) There is no cure for HSV-1 but there are vaccines and medications that can prevent infection like Penciclovir or Aciclover

 

10) -Herpes is the Greek word for "creep"

      -The first outbreak of herpes on a person has a low chance of developing into aseptic meningitis

      -The virus can penetrate cells but can stay dormant for long periods of time.

      -A person may be able to infect someone else when they have no idea that they are infected themselves; also known as "shedding".
