Chapter 1.1 - Observing Living Things

 

All living things have certain needs to survive

You can tell if something is living if it hasall of these characteristics:

• Responds to it's environment
• Needs energy
• Grows
• Reproduces
• Gets rid of waste that builds up in it's body

 

Living things are most of the time referred to as organisms. Organisms are made of cells. There are two types of organisms with cells:

1)Unicellular - meaning it is made up of only one cell.

2) Multicellular - meaning it is made up of two or more cells.

 

Since cells are too small to see with just your eyes we use microscopes.

At school we use a compound light microscope
