THE ROCK CYCLE

Rocks are not permanent over geologic time. All rocks change slowly from one of the three rock types to another. This continuous transformation is called the rock cycle. However the rock cycle does not always occur in this sequence. As shown in the graph, the arrows sometimes cut across the cirlce. This represents rocks skipping steps in the cycle. The rock cycle simply demonstrates that rocks are always changing over geological time.
